It has come to our attention that conservative and pro-Israeli groups throughout the blogosphere have taken advantage of Operation Israel, attempting to solidify public opinion against Anonymous.

TheOtherMcCain.com posted an editorial this morning which stated the following: “If you ever doubted that Anonymous was a terrorist organization, they have now removed all reason for doubt.” The article only contained 55 words of original content by the site itself, the other 90 percent of the article was selected quotations by mainstream media sources.

Let us once again be perfectly clear:
Anonymous does not in any way support the use of violence. Anonymous is a world wide collective of individuals whose means pursue human rights, justice, and universal equality for the citizens of every nation.

Pro-Israeli groups throughout the world have grown from a foundation of Israeli/US propaganda and lies. They arbitrarily dismiss the apartheid system of racial segregation and oppression imposed by the Israeli government on the Palestinian people. The fact of the matter is, in the eyes of the media, only the United States and it’s allies are capable of labeling another state or organization as a terrorists. Throughout our campaign, we’ve been inundated with one response in particular; references to Hamas hiding in school buildings or using women and children as human shields. Selective memory seems to have given pro-Israeli organizations the ability to forget that in 2005 Israeli Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz appeared in court to defend the practice of using Palestinians as human shields in combat after a supreme court outlawed the practice, noting it violated International Law.

The reasons for Anonymous intervention through #OpIsrael should be abundantly clear: What is happening in Palestine is oppression. They have no navy, no army, or air force. There is no war in Gaza. There is only the continuous application of military force by Israel in an attempt to push every last person out of the Palestinian state, despite international laws that make these efforts illegal. This illegal expansion of territory by Israel in to the Palestinian state has been ongoing since1948, making refugees of over 700,000 Palestinians. Today, Palestinians are not permitted to live in Israeli settlements, drive on Israeli roads or even travel is the “security” areas surrounding them. These Israeli only housing developments are being built on stolen land, even while being called illegal settlements by the International Court of Justice.

The violence inflicted upon the civilian residents of Gaza is well documented, despite the fact that Israel has adamantly opposed intervention by human rights organizations and the IDF constantly blocks and harasses international journalists.

Despite these facts, Anonymous has not used any anti-Semitic language during our campaign. Nor have we vocalized any support for Palestinian military operations or resistance groups. Our goal was to protect the rights of Palestinian people who are threatened with silence as Israel has made attempts to shut down cell phone and internet service throughout Gaza. We know what happens to victims of oppression when the lights go dark.

It is also worthy to note, that as of yesterday, members of Anonymous participating in #OpIsrael were making attempts to augment our Gaza Care Package for civilians in Tel Aviv by translating the same documents in to Hebrew in the event that they lose access to internet service as well. We do not racially or geographically differentiate between victims of violence or oppression anywhere in the world.

Both Palestinians and Israelis need to find common ground and end the violence that has already resulted in the deaths of innocent people, including children. Israel’s advancement on Palestinian Territories and the racist oppression of Palestinian people needs to end.

We are not terrorists. Governments that fund wars, practice deceit against their own citizens, condone corruption, and turn a blind eye to the deaths of innocent people are terrorists. The word terror does not belong to Israel or the United States. We will judge you by your actions.

Elephants live in matriarchal groups where males are excluded except to breed. They’re herbivores and are known to be highly empathetic to other elephants as well as their dead; if one elephant in the group is in trouble, all the other elephants will pitch in to help it out. They also practice collective raising of the young, with young elephants being tended to by all members of the herd.

You guys, elephants are socialist vegan feminists who support public education.

It’s also worth mentioning that most elephants are bisexual.

Louisiana’s Crime Against Nature Law: A Modern-Day Scarlet Letter :

Louisiana’s Crime Against Nature statute, which dates back to the 19th century, is an archaic law founded on moral disapproval of what kinds of sex acts are acceptable. The statute criminalizes sexual conduct considered contrary to the laws of nature because it is nonprocreative and historically associated with homosexuality.

For decades, the Solicitation provision of the Crime Against Nature statute harshly punished individuals who offered or agreed to have oral or anal sex for money by requiring them to register as a sex offender upon conviction, and subjecting them to higher sentences and fines than identical or similar conduct under the prostitution statute.

This was the only instance in which an offense that does not involve children, the use of force, violence, a weapon or lack of consent required registration as a sex offender. Louisiana’s prostitution statute has never triggered a registration requirement.

The inclusion of Crime Against Nature by Solicitation on Louisiana’s sex offender registry was both discriminatory and unconstitutional, and has disproportionately affected women, people across the spectrum of gender and sexuality, including gay, lesbian and transgender people, African Americans and poor people.

A Situation Ripe for Abuse and Discrimination

Most of the people convicted of Crime Against Nature by Solicitation law are poor women of color and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) people who often must turn to sex work to survive.

The statute brands poor women and LGBTQ people with a modern-day scarlet letter and disproportionately affects members of the black community.

In Orleans Parish, almost 40 percent of registered sex offenders are on the registry because they were convicted under the Crime Against Nature statute – despite the fact that their convictions did not involve any force, lack of consent or children. Furthermore, 75 percent of those registered are women, and 79 percent of them are African American.

Police officers and prosecutors have had complete discretion in applying the statute throughout the entire legal process – from the initial arrest and charges to conviction and subsequent mandatory registration as a sex offender. This creates a situation ripe for abuse and discriminatory enforcement.

An Unconstitutional and Unjustifiable Law

Harsher punishment for a Crime Against Nature by Solicitation conviction, as compared to a prostitution conviction, serves no rational or legitimate purpose. It simply expresses particular moral disapproval of non-procreative sex acts associated with homosexuality.

Until August 2010, even a first Crime Against Nature by Solicitation conviction triggered a registration requirement. Despite legislative amendments to the law, anyone convicted of a first offense before August 2010 or with a second charge must continue to register on the sex offender registry.

In June 2011, legislation was signed into law that will equalize penalties for a Crime Against Nature by Solicitation and prostitution going forward. The new amendments are a welcome change for the better. However, they are not retroactive and as such, do not offer relief to the hundreds of people currently on the registry solely because they were prosecuted under the statute in the past. Those living branded with this modern-day scarlet letter continue to suffer with the burdens of this injustice.

A Modern-Day Scarlet Letter

For individuals convicted under the statute, sex offender registration
has a devastating effect on every aspect of their lives, including
their access to housing, employment, social services, and shelter in the event of an emergency or natural disaster.

Registration is required annually for between 15 years and life. You must carry a state ID with the words “SEX OFFENDER” in bright orange capital letters. If you fail to pay annual registration fees, you are subject to prison time or a $500 fine.

You must mail neighbors postcards notifying them of your name, address, description and your Crime Against Nature conviction – which requires that you spend additional hundreds of dollars every time you move. Your name, address and photograph will appear on a sex offender website, and you may be required to publish your name and Crime Against Nature by Solicitation conviction in the local newspaper. You must disclose the fact that you are registered as a sex offender to your landlord, employer, school, parks department, community centers and place of worship.

Many individuals have been denied access to homeless shelters and drug treatment because such facilities do not accept those labeled as sex offenders. And in the case of an evacuation in a natural disaster or other emergency, you will not be allowed to stay with your children or family in a publicly-run emergency shelter, and you must present yourself as a registered sex offender in all emergency situations.

The sex offender registration requirement that results from a Crime Against Nature by Solicitation conviction ultimately shuts down access to the services necessary for people to live a productive life and to take care of themselves and their families.

On This Day In 2000: Faris Odeh is shot to death by an Israeli soldier while he crouched down to pick up another stone as he confronted the illegal presence of the Israeli army on Palestinian territory, during the second month of the Second Intifada, in Gaza, on November 9, 2000.

The soldier fired into Odeh’s neck. He was so close to an Israeli tank that they had to wait an hour before they felt it was safe to remove his body and load it into an ambulance. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

This photograph of the 14-year-old boy standing fearlessly in front of an Israeli tank was taken 10 days before his murder and quickly gained worldwide attention.

Video footage shows Odeh repeatedly throwing stones at an armoured tank and though not causing any damage, his bravery and determination made him an iconic figure in Palestinian resistance against Israeli occupation.

Tens of thousands of people attended his funeral and to this day no one has been charged for his murder.
